Ear Surgery

Beauty: It’s Personal

Although they are often ignored, your ears can greatly impact the overall balance and harmony of your face. If you are concerned with prominent, protruding, or misshapen ears, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bekanich can help reshape and adjust your ear to a more proportionate, pleasing appearance with otoplasty, commonly known as ear pinning surgery.

How Ear Pinning Can Benefit You

Dr. Bekanich can perform otoplasty on adults as well as children over the age of five, whose ears have fully developed. Ear pinning is a safe and effective method for bringing protruding ears closer to the head, reducing the size of large ears to be more proportionate with other features, and correcting any defects.

What to Expect from Ear Surgery

During your personalized consultation with Dr. Bekanich, she will examine your ears and the natural anatomy of your entire face and head to develop a customized surgical plan that will give you natural-looking results.

Depending on the age and comfort level of the patient, ear surgery can be performed either using local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. Dr. Bekanich will begin by making an incision in the natural fold where the back of the ear meets the head. From there, she will be able to adjust the ear cartilage into a more pleasing and proportionate position.

Ear Lobe Repair

If your concerns lie with torn, stretched, drooping, or aging ear lobes, Dr. Bekanich can help reshape your lobes for a more pleasing appearance.

During the ear lobe repair procedure, Dr. Bekanich will remove and rearrange excess tissue through small, inconspicuous incisions to restore a more youthful shape to the ear lobes. The incisions will be closed with fine sutures, which will remain throughout healing to keep the lobe in place and maintain results.

When it comes to the appearance of aging ear lobes, loss of fat is often the main culprit. In these cases, Dr. Bekanich may recommend fat grafting for the best results.
