Beautify Your Life, Starting with You
Your facial expressions, particularly those in the upper third of your face, tell your story—and if you have a heavy or furrowed brow, you may be sending the wrong message. A drooping or fallen forehead can result in the appearance of negative emotion or fatigue, even when you are happy and well rested.
As we get older, the combination of lost skin elasticity, the natural effects of gravity, and daily expressive muscle movement can lead to a sagging brow and deep creases and wrinkles on the forehead. Luckily, Dr. Bekanich can help with that! A brow lift is a safe and effective method of raising the eyebrows to a more youthful position and smoothing out horizontal wrinkles on the forehead and between the eyes.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?
Because there are many different factors that can impact the appearance of your upper face, it’s important to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Bekanich. During your consultation, she will listen to your concerns and evaluate your face, paying special attention to the position of your eyebrows, the integrity of your forehead skin, and the quality of any furrows or wrinkles.
Working closely with you, Dr. Bekanich will design a treatment plan that best addresses your individual concerns and desired outcome. She may recommend moving forward with a brow lift alone, or she may suggest combining treatment with other options, such as BOTOX® or facelift surgery.
Before & After
It may be time to consider brow lift surgery if you meet any of the following criteria:
- Your brow is drooping, causing your features to look fallen and affecting the appearance of your eyes
- Excess upper eyelid skin is creating the appearance of anger or tiredness
- You have wrinkles around your eyes and brow, such as crow’s feet or forehead furrows
- Your brow is misshapen
Because the underlying forehead muscles and tissues are removed or tightened during a brow lift, the result is a smoother forehead, raised eyebrows, and fewer expression lines.
What to Expect from Brow Lift Surgery
Brow lift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia or, in some cases, local anesthesia with sedation. It can either be done traditionally with an incision across the hairline or endoscopically. With the traditional method Dr. Bekanich will begin by making a small, precise incision across the top of your head, hidden in your hairline. Through this incision, she will be able to remove or alter the muscles and tissues of your brow to create a smoother appearance. Dr. Bekanich will then lift the eyebrows to a youthful position, taking care to follow your existing anatomy to produce natural results. If it is preformed endoscopically two small incisions are made behind the hairline and small holders are used to secure the brow in it’s new position. A thorough consultation will allow Dr. Bekanich to recommend which technique is best for you.
Once the desired effect has been achieved with either technique, Dr. Bekanich will close and dress the incision. You will be able to return home the same day, but will need someone to drive you and help you around for at least a day. Many patients return to work after a week, but you should continue to avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks to avoid impacting your recovery or results.
