Put Your Best Face Forward

Close your eyes and envision your face. If you don’t see that same beautiful image when you look in the mirror, there are ways to help revive your skin so you can look as great as you feel. A facelift can tighten and lift the facial skin to help you appear younger and more vibrant.

What is a Facelift?

A combination of gravity, genetics, pollution, sun and stress can drag down facial skin over time. If you are concerned about the effects of aging, a facelift (or rhytidectomy) might be right for you. A facelift is a surgical procedure designed to address the following common concerns:

  • Deep creases below the lower eyelids or along the nose
  • Sagging in the middle of the face
  • Loose skin or jowls
  • Loss of volume or a fallen appearance
  • Excess fatty deposits under the chin or jaw

Dr. Bekanich discusses facial rejuvenation on Studio512

How Does a Facelift Work?

Dr. Bekanich will make an incision along the front part of the ears and possibly extending that around the ears.   An additional incision under the chin may be necessary to tighten the skin around the neck.

Once the incisions have been made, Dr. Bekanich will separate the skin from the fat and muscle. Then she will tighten the SMAS or superficial musculoaponeurotic system (the strong layer under the skin) by pulling it back over itself. This will lift the cheeks, firm the neck, and define the jawline.

To end the procedure, Dr. Bekanich will pull the skin back up over the area and remove any excess skin that may remain. The incision will be closed securely and Dr. Bekanich will give you specific instructions on how to care for your incisions as you heal. The procedure can take as little as three hours, depending on the complexity of your needs.

What is Recovery Like?

After the procedure, you’ll need someone to pick you up after the procedure and help care for you for the first few days after surgery. Patients generally feel a little discomfort, but most pain is easily managed with medication. Some swelling and bruising are to be expected, and it’s helpful to sleep with your head elevated. Frequent walks can also help the healing process.
