Redefine Your Shape
Although breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures, bigger isn’t always the end goal. If your bust is a little more abundant than you’d like, breast reduction surgery may be a good option for you.
Breast reduction can help relieve you of both the physical and emotional discomfort of having very large breasts. By relieving back, neck, and shoulder pain, it can help improve your health and allow you to enjoy the lifestyle you want—and the clothes you’ve always wished you could wear. Through breast reduction surgery, Dr. Bekanich can create a balanced, shapely breast that helps you feel better about yourself and your breasts.
Is Breast Reduction Right for Me?
There are many different reasons you may be considering breast reduction, and an important first step is consulting with an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Bekanich to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. Common reasons for undergoing breast reduction are:
- To improve back, shoulder, or neck pain caused by large, heavy breasts
- Minimizing breast interference with sports and physical activity
- Balancing proportion of breasts to the rest of your body
- Addressing breast asymmetry
- Enhancing the way clothes fit and increasing wardrobe options
- Improving confidence
During your personalized consultation with Dr. Bekanich, she will discuss your concerns and unique goals with you, and explain the details of the procedure.
What to Expect from Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia. Depending on your existing breast shape and size, the type and amount of breast tissue needing to be removed, and your desired final look, Dr. Bekanich will choose the reduction technique that is best suited to you. Dr. Bekanich uses the follow techniques:
For some patients, it is possible to achieve optimal results using liposuction techniques alone. Liposuction for breast reduction is a quicker, less invasive procedure that leave nearly undetectable scars on the breasts. The best candidates for this method typically require only a moderate reduction in breast size, have good skin elasticity, and who are not experiencing extensive sagging.
Vertical “Lollipop” Breast Reduction
For those who require a moderate reduction, Dr. Bekanich may recommend the lollipop technique, which can also address sagging. The lollipop breast reduction involves one incision around the areola and one vertical incision running from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease. This allows Dr. Bekanich to remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to internally reshape the breast and lift the new smaller breast to a youthful position.
Inverted-T “Anchor” Breast Reduction
Dr. Bekanich will recommend this technique if you require a more significant reduction in size and have considerable breast sagging. By making incisions around the end of the areola, vertically from the areola to the inframammary fold, and along the breast crease, Dr. Bekanich is able to remove a larger amount of tissue, lift and completely reshape the breast.
