Amp Up Your Curves
One of the most popular procedures in Austin and beyond, breast augmentation surgery enhances breast shape and increases size through the placement of breast implants. For women who developed asymmetrically, did not develop at all, or who are experiencing loss of volume and shape after pregnancy and breastfeeding, or weight loss, breast augmentation can provide you with shapely, well-proportioned breasts.
Breast Implant Options
During your breast augmentation consultation, Dr. Bekanich will discuss what implant options are available and help determine which may be the best for you. Size is not the only thing to consider when choosing implants—shape, material, projection, and profile all play an important role in the final results of your procedure.
What to Expect: Austin Breast Augmentation Surgery
After the best options for you and your unique anatomy have been determined, and if you are comfortable and ready to move forward, you can schedule your breast augmentation with Dr. Bekanich. It is important to have a designated driver to transport you to and from your procedure appointment. Although you will be awake soon after surgery, you will need supervision as the effects of anesthesia gradually wear off. Your breast augmentation will be performed under general anesthesia or under local anesthesia with sedation, based on your needs and Dr. Bekanich’s recommendation. There are several different incision options that may be used depending on chosen implant type and your anatomy. The most common incisions are:
- Inframmamory—this incision is made along the breast fold underneath the breast and is commonly the best option for silicone implants. Located in the shadow of the breast, the resultant scar is minimally visible.
- Periareolar—made along the lower edge of of your areola, the periareolar incision is typically used for saline implants that are inflated once the implant is placed. If a breast lift is being performed, the incision may run the entire circumference of the areola. This small incision leaves a scar that is naturally disguised by the pigment of the areola.
Once the incision has been made, Dr. Bekanich will place the implant. While most implants are placed beneath the chest wall pectoralis muscle, Dr. Bekanich will discuss which placement would be best for you during your consultation. If performed alone, your breast augmentation should take 1-2 hours.
Dr. Bekanich is Keller Funnel Certified
During breast augmentation procedures, Dr. Bekanich uses the Keller Funnel, a special tool that allows her to place silicone breast implants precisely without handling them directly.
In addition to reducing procedure time, the Keller Funnel allows Dr. Bekanich to make shorter incisions, promotes optimal healing, and lowers risk for infection and other post-operative complications.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
After your procedure, you will experience some swelling, soreness, and, potentially, temporary changes in sensation of the breast and nipple. Strenuous activity, lifting, and bending will need to be avoided, but you should be able to return to most activities within a week. Dr. Bekanich will discuss specific aftercare and recovery instructions with you. Here are our post-op instructions for our breast augmentation patients to reference.
